I paint the body as terrain — heavy, bruised, impossibly alive — until the skin of the canvas remembers it was once flesh.

The
Studio
Born in the United Kingdom, Charlotte Brown studied art in Rome, where years spent before the Baroque masters — Caravaggio, Bernini, Rubens — taught her to study the human figure as both flesh and revelation. Today she lives and works in her art studio on the outskirts of London.
Her work draws equally on contemporaries such as Jenny Saville, whose unflinching, monumental figuration showed her that the body could be painted as terrain: heavy, raw and unidealised.
At the heart of her practice is a single intention — to treat the body as the canvas of the soul. Body and spirit are never separated in her work; they make their imprint on the canvas as one.
Her practice is digital: she fuses the language of traditional painting — impasto, glaze, the drag of a loaded brush — with photography, building each work until the image arrives at a state of abstract realism, where the figure is at once precisely present and dissolving into pure paint.
Alongside painting, she writes poetry. The two practices feed into each other: a line of verse often becomes the seed of an image, and an unfinished painting frequently finds its way back into words.
The figures are real people: friends, strangers, her mother. What happens to them on the canvas is less certain — limbs fold into landscape, faces dissolve into weather, and flesh becomes a place you could get lost in.
The camera gives me the body. Paint gives it weight. The digital lets them bleed into each other.

Shipping &
Delivery
Prints are produced and shipped by our print-on-demand partner, Printify, through its network of print providers. The terms below follow their production, shipping and reprint policies.
Every print is produced only after your order is placed, as part of a numbered limited edition of 50. Once an edition is sold out it is no longer offered.
Production typically takes 2–7 business days. This is an average, not a guarantee — holidays and high-volume seasons will increase it. Production time cannot be expedited.
After dispatch, domestic orders sent by standard shipping usually arrive within 2–5 business days. International shipping ranges from 5–20 business days, depending on the destination and customs processing.
Shipping is charged by destination — see the rates below — with the first print at the full rate and each additional print at a reduced rate. Where Priority Shipping is offered it speeds up delivery only — the standard 2–7 business day production time still applies. Ship-by and delivery dates shown are estimates and are not guaranteed.
If your print arrives damaged or with a manufacturing error, a free reprint or a refund is offered when you contact us within 30 days of delivery with a clear photo showing the issue. There is no need to return the damaged item.
If your order has not arrived within 30 calendar days (domestic UK, US or EU orders) or 45 calendar days (international orders), please contact us within one week after that period ends to remain eligible for a reprint or refund. Please first check the delivery address and your local post office, as parcels are sometimes held for collection.
If an order is returned because of an incorrect or incomplete address, a partial refund or a reprint may be offered. Re-shipping to a corrected address may be at your own expense.
Because each print is made to order, we cannot exchange a print for a different size or format, so please check your selection carefully. Customers in the UK and EU can still cancel within 14 days of delivery — see the Terms of Sale.
Terms
of Sale
These terms apply to every print bought from this website. Please read them before you order.
Prints are sold by Charlotte Brown, [studio address], United Kingdom. You can contact us at [email protected].
Each artwork is offered as a limited edition of 50 prints across all sizes and formats. Once 50 have been sold the edition is closed and will not be reprinted. Prints are produced to order by our print partner, Printify, and its network of print providers.
Your order is accepted when you receive our confirmation email after payment. If an edition sells out while you are paying, or a price is shown in error, we will let you know and refund you in full.
Prices are in pounds sterling (GBP) and include VAT where it applies. Shipping is shown in your cart before you pay. Payments are processed securely by Stripe. One promotional code can be used per order, and the welcome code applies to your first order only.
Screens show colour differently, so printed colours may vary slightly from what you see on screen. Where a print size has different proportions from the artwork, this is noted beside the size as “slight crop” (canvas) or “with white border” (paper).
Production and delivery times, shipping rates, and what happens if a parcel is lost or damaged are set out on the Shipping & Delivery page. Orders delivered outside the UK may be charged import duties or taxes on arrival, which are payable by the customer.
If you are a consumer in the UK or EU, you can cancel your order within 14 days of receiving it, without giving a reason. Email us to let us know, then return the print within 14 days, in its original condition and packaging, at your own cost. We will refund the price of the print and standard delivery within 14 days of receiving it back. We may reduce the refund if the print has been handled more than needed to inspect it.
Your legal rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 are not affected. If a print arrives damaged or faulty, contact us with a photo of the issue and we will arrange a free reprint or a full refund.
All artworks remain the copyright of Charlotte Brown. Buying a print does not give you the right to copy, reproduce or use the image commercially.
We are responsible for loss or damage you suffer that is a foreseeable result of our breaking these terms. Nothing in these terms limits our liability where it would be unlawful to do so.
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. If you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you can also bring proceedings in your local courts.
